A Victorian Home
Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield
Renovating a period property requires careful decisions. Every change must respect the character of the home while improving the way it functions for modern life. For this late Victorian house, the brief was clear: create a kitchen that felt timeless, generous in scale and beautifully detailed whilst making the most of the available space.
From our very first meeting, it was evident that this would be a collaborative and inspiring project. Our client arrived with sketches and a strong sense of the look she wanted to achieve. Our role was to refine those ideas, test them spatially and technically, and bring them to life through considered design and craftsmanship.
The room is large and open, incorporating dining and seating areas, which allowed us to introduce a substantial central island. Finished in Farrow & Ball Railings, it anchors the space and creates a natural social hub. The island features apothecary-style drawers at the rear - practical, highly accessible and ideal for locating items quickly.
In the corner of the room, we designed and built a walk-in pantry with a sliding pocket door, allowing the everyday essentials to be tucked away neatly. When closed, it preserves the clean architectural lines of the room.
Elsewhere in the house, the study was redesigned for our client to work from home. The arrangement of cupboards and open shelves creates versatile and easily accessible storage while still allowing plenty of space for an easy chair and desk area.
This project enhances the way the house works as a whole - creating storage that feels intentional, spaces that encourage gathering, and furniture that sits comfortably within a Victorian setting while serving modern life.
